Sustainability has always been central to both John Hardy and Threadapeutic.
NOW THROUGH APRIL 30, guests at Bali’s John Hardy Boutique and Gallery at Seminyak will have the opportunity to view Threadapeutic’s newest textile creations during the GIFTS exhibition.
Throughout the month, there will be a complement of events to celebrate GIFTS at John Hardy Boutique and Gallery at Seminyak. These include talks and hands-on workshops in reconstructing fabric offcuts led by Hana, the Indonesian artist and founder behind Threadapeutic.
John Hardy Seminyak Boutique and Gallery has been a Balinese shopping staple since the mid-seventies, and the John Hardy name is among the most sought-after on the island. Each year, new and seasoned guests discover extraordinary jewelry inside the brand’s lush jungle compound that features thought-provoking art, tranquil design, and places to eat, sip, and contemplate.
The central space in the boutique features a well-curated selection of locally-made jewelry, conversation-starting objet d’art, hand-crafted items such as candles, ceramics, and accessories, and a rotating series of onsite art exhibitions.
The sustainability principle moved the company to partner with Threadapeutic for their GIFTS exhibition.
The Threadapeutic Journey
Founded in 2015, Threadapeutic has made its name through innovative techniques and sustainable approaches to fabric art that are as beautiful as they are purposeful.
Part of the brand’s mission is to respond to the planet’s ever-growing waste issues and equally dwindling resources. Its creations are made from landfill-bound fabric offcuts sourced from fashion and furnishing factories in Indonesia.
Threadapeutic manipulates these would-be waste fabrics into uniquely blended textiles for clothing, accessories, and home decor. What sets the company apart is its ethos for choosing high-quality offcuts and treating them with art and couture techniques.
It has previously worked with raw materials, including cotton, silk, linen, batik, chiffon and tulle. The house also incorporates layering, hand-stitching, cutting and brushing to achieve otherworldly and ethereal results.
Threadapeutic’s signature Faux Chenille technique is masterful fabric manipulation, allowing the richest textures and color-play to emerge.
“There are so many waste materials available, we need more people to transform them into something of value,” said Threadapeutic’s Hana.
A Shared Passion
While John Hardy has always worked with sustainable materials, artisans, and techniques, they are making further steps in making others aware of the growing waste issues. The company is actively working to inspire others while reversing harmful practices that contribute to the climate crisis.
They work with local and sustainable suppliers, vendors, and retailers while continuously improving each internal practice and process. Now, they are taking their message further by partnering with international artisans that share the same vision.
