Rooms at The Source at Sula

The Source at Sula

The 67-room boutique property has rooms done up in a soothing, subtly-shaded vintage style with a private sit-out area, luxurious suites and few cosy tree houses overlooking the vineyard. The room that I stayed in had simple, rustic furniture that you would expect in a country-side setting. The French windows opened to a veranda surrounded by flowering trees and green shrubs. It’s here that I sat and sipped my morning tea in quietude broken by crickets chirping happily. The Source at Sula offers a relaxing break amidst nature, where it’s easy to shut away the din of daily rigmarole.

Review of The Source at Sula

Source at Sula

A drive through rolling meadows and pretty-as-a-picture Maharashtrian countryside takes you to Nashik from the nearest airport at Shirdi. The wine capital of India is home to Sula winery and vineyards. The iconic wines from Sula that have made it to celebratory tables and bars around the country are made here. Adjacent to the winery is Sula’s boutique hotel, The Source at Sula. Aptly named, the property lets oenophiles and other curious travellers experience the entire process of wine making–from seed to sip amidst picturesque vineyards.

The distinctive European architecture of The Source at Sula replete with arches and symmetrical columns, blooming gardens with well laid out cobbled paths and courtyards with fountains, will instantly remind you of Burgundy or Tuscany.

Source at Sula

The muted yellow colour palette of the exteriors of the property seems to be in harmony with its surroundings. With upscale restaurants like La Bodega and Rasa, a swimming pool, as well as a wellness spa and a host of outdoor activities, including organised bike rides, The Source at Sula has positioned itself as a culinary and nature-focused getaway.

The sustainable initiatives at the winery deserve a special mention. During a long morning walk in the vineyard I spotted solar panels, rainwater harvesting units and water recycling and treatment plants. Sula has boards placed around the vineyards that inform guests of its sustainable practices. The same philosophy extends to The Source at Sula as well. The property does not encourage single use plastic and each of the rooms have glass water bottles, bamboo toothbrushes and refillable toiletries dispensers.

If you are looking for a quick weekend getaway, The Source at Sula perfectly fits the bill. It makes you realise the importance of green spaces and the necessity to unwind and rejuvenate in the lap of nature.

Food and Dining at The Source at Sula

La Bodega

La Bodega is the all-day diner that serves continental food. It lays out an exhaustive breakfast spread each morning that you can feast on after walking or cycling in the vineyard. Rasa is the in-house Indian restaurant that serves a wide variety of food from across the country. However, the local Maharashtrian food here is a must-try and highlights seasonal products from Sula’s local farms. The chef also suggests wine pairings for Indian food. If you thought you couldn’t sip onto Chenin blanc with pakoras, think again! You can also have your meal or even a glass of wine in your room. In-room dining is available at an additional cost.
