A Review of Emilia-Romagna Special Menu, La Piazza, Hyatt Regency New Delhi

Serving some of the finest Italian food in the capital city, La Piazza at Hyatt Regency New Delhi is one of the few legendary Italian restaurants in the city celebrating its silver jubilee. The iconic restaurant’s offerings are many, but we find ourselves here on a rainy evening to give the Emilia-Romagna special menu a shot.

Cuisine

La Piazza

La Piazza is currently celebrating the culinary treasures of Emilia-Romagna. The region is known for its artisanal delicacies and rich culinary heritage. From the delectable parmesan cheese meticulously crafted by local artisans to the balsamic reduction aged to perfection in oak barrels, each ingredient narrates a unique story of passion and tradition. And at the helm of this celebration is executive chef Alessandro Sandrolini. Emilia-Romagna is Italy’s food valley, and with a special menu curated by chef, the heart and soul of this bountiful region has come to La Piazza.

Ambience

The restaurant almost immediately transports one to Italy. Think elements such as vintage candle stands, warm yellow lights, cosy interiors, affable staff, interactive kitchen, the best wine selection, and a wood fired oven that one can immediately spot upon entering. If not for the constant chatter in Hindi around me, I would have very well thought of myself in a cosy Italian outpost surrounded by the aroma of fresh herbs.

We Recommend

Appetisers

La Piazza

Starting with the antipasti, first up is Gelato al Parmigiano, sfoglia croccante, micro erbe (INR 1,100). It is a dollop of parmesan ice cream served with crisps made with puff sheet and topped with microgreens. A chef’s kiss is the only way to describe the melt-in-the-mouth cheese, and together with the crisps, it makes for a perfect start to the evening.

Next up is a little surprise packed in the Fritto misto di frutta e verdure (INR 1,650), which is fried fruits and vegetables. For those who’d like to keep things interesting on the table, an engaging guessing game of ‘what is what’ is a must. We figured pineapple, green apple, artichoke, and mushrooms.

Adding finer touches to our meal are Chef Alessandro’s little surprise visits to the table to explain a little about each dish and ensuring they are to our liking. “Every dish on this menu reflects the love, dedication, and authenticity that define the culinary traditions of my homeland, and I am honoured to have the opportunity to bring a taste of my homeland directly to your table,” shares the chef.

Main Course

La Piazza

Moving on to the mains, we opt for the Lasagna al forno con ragu di verdure (INR 1,850). Baked to perfection, the lasagna comes with aged parmesan in a pool of vegetable ragu. For those who prefer something on the crispier side, there is Polenta fritta con friggione (INR 1,350). The fried polenta, onions, and bell pepper stew add that extra crunch to one’s meal. The star of the evening, however, is Balanzoni di ricotta e spinaci burro e salvia (INR 1,350). It is here that the greens sneak up on you, but in a decadent way. The spinach tortellini are filled with a generous amount of soft ricotta and doused in butter and sage. These simple flavours create all the magic!

Dessert

Limited Edition Menu

Everything good always ends on a sweet note with dessert. And for some extra goodness, we opted for both the items on the dessert menu. While the Zuppa inglese (INR 800), an old-style gateaux with pastry cream and chocolate, is an acquired taste, the Latte in piedi (INR 800), traditional crème caramel with fresh berry and caramel sauce, is my personal favourite owing to its stellar presentation and balanced sweetness.
