Goa needs no introduction. Home to golden coastlines stretching into the horizon, this tropical state has been a tourist favourite for long. Catering to travellers of all kinds, the melange of Portuguese culture with Goan lifestyle makes it a pocket-sized paradise. Think beach-side shacks churning out ice-cold beers and prawn delicacies; spiritual hubs mastering inner balance and peace; casinos heavy with pizzazz and fun, and lots of churches dotted along swaying palm trees and paddy fields.

The ideal way to kickstart any Goan holiday is by heading straight to its many beaches and dipping straight into the Arabian sea. Ranging from party havens like Anjuna and Candolim to the more laid-back ones like Palolem and Mandrem, the sandy expanses cater to all kinds of travellers. For a more rustic backdrop, the Betul beach is the go-to spot. However, despite the party image that the state is known for, Goa has its share of sombre offerings as well. Home to spiritual sanctuaries offering sunrise yoga, reiki healing courses, and countless meditation courses, it comes as no surprise that the tropical paradise pioneers the art of zen as well.

History lovers won’t be disappointed either. Head straight to Aguada Fort, a well-reserved Portuguese structure dating to the 17th century. When here, the ramparts overlooking the confluence of the Mandovi river and the Arabian sea will have you transfixed, while the distant cliff-side Aguada lighthouse will leave you mesmerised. The Chapora Fort located in the northern side of the state is another popular spot, courtesy the cult Bollywood film,
Dil Chahta Hai.
Other popular forts include Reis Magos Fort, Sinquerim Fort, Cabo de Rama Fort, and more.

Apart from the beauty of the palm tree-lined streets, the tiny state is accentuated with many other must-visit spots as well. Think, the milky-white Dudhsagar Falls; the revered Basilica of Bom Jesus; the Portuguese quarters, Fontainhas; and the trinket-haven, Anjuna Flea Market.

There’s no dearth of cuisine options in Goa, but its local flavours are the true hero. The Fisherman’s Wharf is one such historic restaurant that celebrates delectable local cuisine like tandoori pomfret, fish ambotik, masala fried prawns and fish curry rice. To indulge in artisanal cocktails paired with toddy shop meen curry and sundal at Gunpowder are a favourite among locals as well. For a more contemporary take on traditional flavours, Suzie’s garden-style chic vibe is ideal. However, if you’re looking for global flavours, Thalassa–The Greek Taverna promises a delicious Greek meal.

How To Reach?

Goa is 587 kilometres away from Mumbai. Despite being an 11-hour-long journey, the drive is considered one of the most beautiful ones in the country, making the long road trip a picturesque one. While a personal car packed with your closest buddies is the best option, many state-owned buses and personal operators also regularly ply on this route.

Away from the bustling streets of Calangute and Candolim, The Postcard Velha is designed for the quieter guests. The modernist colonial hideout is sprawled over two acres of greens with six comfortable villas and suites to soak in the surrounding forests in peace. Add to it refreshing valley-views from each balcony, and you’ve got yourself an invigorating stay like no other.

Luxurious seclusion is the philosophy backing every experience at MAYFAIR Hideaway Spa Resort, Goa. The charming boutique hotel stands at the confluence of the Sal River and the Arabian Sea, making it an aesthetically mesmerising hideaway.

Straying away from opulence, an old-world Goan charm exudes at the palm-fringed Casa Anjuna. The heritage boutique hotel discretely brings modern hospitality conveniences to the sleepy village of Anjuna, all without skimping on the rustic charm.
